Default 2010 Clutch MS worth rebuilding?

Hi Guys,
I've got about 20 hours on my 2010 EC300 (bought it in Nov. with about 20hrs on it). Anyway, I've also got a Rekluse Core EXP on it. The clutch lever never has bounced back quickly when released. About 10 hours ago it started dragging, even with the lever pulled in. I back bled the system, next day, same thing, etc. I took it apart tonight, several metal chips on the cup seal on the MC, as well as all around the Slave Cylinder, the o-rings also have a couple chunk outs on the Slave Cyl. I did a search, some guys were saying to just replace the MC with a Magura model. The rebuild kit looks like it's $40, the new MC is $135. My first thought was that someone had the wrong fluid in it and the seals swelled/failed. Question is.... would it be worth the rebuild kit and re-try or just go to a Magura and be done with it? The surface inside the bore of the MC doesn't look very pristine. More rough than I would expect, and what's with all the metal chips in the clutch system? During cleaning out the MC, there were quite a few casting pieces (looked like hard black casting slivers).
Thanks as always.
Tim

I had a similar issue with my new 2011 that turned out to be a bad master cylinder. On the other hand there have been ones fixed with a good cleaning out and the rebuild kit. I have heard several reports now of leftover machining debris damaging the seals.

I think AJP's machining quality is really suspect. My new replacement that works fine has some pretty shabby machining work in it. The bore is smooth. The bad one had some serious ribbing action going on in the bore that I think may have been the problem. The seals looked perfect. It also had hair-like machining slivers hanging at the bleed hole, but nothing actually floating around. Had to replace the m/c to fix it.

Anyhoo, since your bore looks questionable I'd question throwing even $40 at it for the kit. My vote would be to go for the Magura.

I have rebuilt the master cylinder and put on a Magura model. Ajp worked as new once rebuilt, Magura seems to work a little better. AJP does have a lighter pull.

Thanks guys for your thoughts. The difference between the rebuild and magura is about $100. It might be worth a hundo for the piece of mind, since yes- the bore looks shabby from the factory- and who knows if the metal pieces scored it.

Take care,
Tim

Just the master cylinder off a late model KTM 2 stroke. 100% swap.

Put on a Magura and be done with it. They work way better.
