Default Forks feel rubbish

Just got a 2011 gas gas ec r like the bike but the front forks don't feel good . Every little root or stone makes the fork want to kick out and feels unstable on the flat corners . Any ideas or will the adjustments on the fork sort this out and are these marrazochi's any help appreciated thanks

I have a 2011 and Drew Smith at WER valved the forks. It was a HUGE difference. Now the forks are plush and progressive and they suck up rocks, roots and trail hack. Before the revalve, they were very harsh in the mid stroke and they deflected a lot. Another member here on the board rode my bike and he really liked the revalved forks. I am very happy with my forks.

2011 race has marzocchi 48 pfp forks, which are very good. There are pages and pages of info in the suspension section. A good start would be to get a 22mm six point socket and turn the star shaped adjuster surrounding the compression clicker on top of fork ccw till it gently stops then turn it cw one rotation. (It does not click) set rebound ( bottom clicker) at 14 clicks from all the way in and compression (top) at 18 and fiddle from there

The link below shows the same fork with red outers and dlc coated inner tubes but is the same fork, there is a link to the manual on the right hand side of the page.

The early 2011 r models had 45's on them too I believe. Mine has the 48's and the legs are not black. As stated earlier there is a 3 sided adjuster in the center of the top of the fork that a 22mm socket will fit on if they are the 48's. Didn't the six days have Sachs up front?

Measure them. I'm positive that they are the 45mm like my 2011 EC 300 electric start. They are good forks when they are properly valved and setup. WER also installed SKF fork seals which have a lot less drag and are more durable.

did u establish which forks?as above look for the odd triangular nut in centre, thats pfp on 48's,not the hexagon inside the rim.the 48s on my 13 at stock damping have a lot of rebound which gives very sharp feel on slow technical sections, but when you up the pace its just too much rebound, over whoops the front kicks up and feels out of sorts with the rear.
simmo's settings are very similar too mine.IMO the most important one is the rebound(14 out also),this settles the front end down, pfp and comp to taste.clickers out from full in,pfp in from full out!stock is 2turns in(harsh),im on 1 in also, and within a couple comp clicks of simmo.take note of where your clickers/pfp are now for interest sake, and if both sides the same.count clicks in softly until full in,dont force, then click back out.rebound clicker on the bottom of fork tubes, comp on top.go softly on the pfp also, should turn easy enough but drags(almost as if theres a spring pressing on it from the inside!ha)
